HP Lubricants sees developments in Electric & other Emerging Technologies playing complimentary rather than substituting role
As environmental concerns necessitate stricter emission norms and push on electric, HP Lubricants (India’s largest lube marketer), sees opportunity. Please find below some snippets from our interview with the HP Lubricants team:
Q: Engine Oil is a low involvement category from customer end. How is HP Lubricants ensuring customer education on this front as well as developing superior products?
HP Lubricants is committed to sharing relevant information with our customers and do so through various online and offline methods including our webpage www.hplubricants.in as well as by conducting workshops through the B2C and B2B channels which are conducted by our field Engineers and Officers.
Q: An initiative of HP Lubricants “Roads That Honk” is commendable and reflects a commitment to practically solve challenges such as road accidents. Would you want to share few insights on this initiative with our readers?
Roads that Honk is a Social initiative of HP Lubricants towards Technological Innovation for saving human lives due to regular accidents on sharp hairpin bends on ghat sections. Since Road users also are end consumers of Lubricants, this is a way HP Lubricants wishes to express its concern and care for its valued customers.
The idea was initiated by M/s Leo Burnett (who are an empaneled advertising agency of HPCL) and was funded and supported by HP Lubricants for deployment of the pilot equipment. It operates on the principle of Solar powered pair of two poles fitted with radars which detect approaching vehicles from opposite sides. It actuates a honk sound when there is simultaneous movement of vehicles from opposite sides by electronically communicating with each other through wireless communication.

Q: As a leading lubricant player, you always talk about new technological innovation to increase the performance. Can you please share some of these new technological developments?
Development in Lubricant technology is now driven by factors beyond performance which are primarily dominated by latest emission norms. Enhancement in performance is often a corollary to primary objective of environmental compliances. HP Lubricants has been in the process of continuously developing newer products through our Technical Services and R&D to meet the diverse market requirements.
Q: The electric vehicle market is gaining pace in India. Do you think this will have any impact on lubricants demand with engine technology migrating from ICE?
As we see, developments in Electric and other emerging technologies will play a complimentary rather than substituting role in the coming decade to the current vehicle technologies. Further, the emerging technologies also will be needing lubricants in Gear boxes, Transmissions, Braking systems, Grease application etc.
